Laparoscopic Surgeries for Infertility
Laparoscopic surgeries has played a vital role in treating the most infertility problems in women. It is a technique of visualization of peritoneal cavity by means of a fibrotic endoscope introduced through the abdominal wall. Before doing the procedure, pneumoperitoneum (presence of air or other gas in the peritoneal cavity) is achieved by the introduction of the carbon dioxide and air.
During the infertility treatment plan, laparoscopy can be done in the periovulatory period (the time period between the LH/FSH surge and ovulation) in order to facilitate the chromopertubation (laparoscopy procedure performed for diagnostic) and also to diagnose the time of ovulation. But only in cases of endometriosis it is performed during the premenstrual period when the ectopic endometrial implants are increased in size. Laparoscopy in infertility is mainly indicated for 2 main purposes
- Diagnostic laparoscopy
- Operative laparoscopy
